Nowata Club Serves Commuity Youth

Nowata's Boys and Girls Club serves more than a thousand young people through the course of a year. The club is the newest agency to receive program funding from the Bartlesville Area United Way. Boys and Girls Club Director, Treasure Standeford says there are about 1200 students 18 and under in the Nowata School System and the Nowata Club boasts more than 800 members.
Standeford says members receive tutoring help, character development, and life skills in addition to a meal when they arrive after school.
Nowata's Boys and Girls Club is housed in a former school building. Standeford says programs emphasize reading, math, and science. The Boys and Girls Club also furnishes food for students not only Monday through Friday, but they also distribute healthy food items for the youngsters to eat over the weekend.
