The Bartlesville Public Schools Foundation announced a fundraising goal of $100,000 to expand STEM programs for elementary school students.

Last year $85,000 was raised to launch a pilot program for STEM. These funds provided a mobile cart of 30 iPads for use by students as well as launching grade-specific computer science modules at all six elementary schools within the district.

Woodrow Wilson Elementary Principal Tammie Krause said the program has been successful so far and that students get very excited when learning and technology are intertwined.

The new program seeks to add a biomedical pathway across all schools where students can learn about humans and animals from a medical perspective. The funds from last year’s program already launched a computer science pathway for all students from kindergarten through high school.

With efforts like these the school system is looking to peak students’ interest in STEM programs at an early age and help them build pathways to future careers.
