Dewey Superintendent Vince Vincent discussed a settlement agreement with Document Imaging Solutions with the school board on Monday night. Vincent told the board on Monday that the school system had been partnered with DIS and the services became spotty over time, so they made a switch in their services to Advanced Copier Systems.

DPS then told DIS that they were terminating the agreement immediately in April. Vincent says they heard nothing from DIS for six months after the fact. In October, Vincent says they received correspondence from Stanley Systems stating that they had acquired DIS and were looking to collect on past invoices that were still open that DPS knew nothing about.

Vincent says he then sought clarity with the representative at Stanley Systems when things were strangely turned over to Terry Burke who claims to still have ownership of DIS. Vincent says he didn’t know if they were supposed to pay DIS or Stanley Systems if they were supposed to pay a termination of services fee at all. Uneasiness crept in for Vincent who says he didn't know if Burke was unemployed and just trying to put money in his pocket by trying to collect invoices for a company that was no longer in business. That's when Vincent says the demands for payment kept coming.

The emails and the details of the situation were then sent to the attorney for Dewey Public Schools. Negotiations between lawyers followed where four options were given. Vincent says three of those options involved longer legal battles that would have cost DPS more money than the option they ought to go for. At the end of the night, the board approved a settlement agreement with DIS where they would receive $1,810 from DPS in exchange for a full release of liability for all disputed claims.
