The Bartlesville City Council accepted several bids at its Monday night meeting. A bid worth $320,379 was awarded to Whaling Construction for a series of improvements at Johnstone Park and the Kiddie Park as well.

A parking lot will be added on the eastside of the Pathfinder Parkway trailhead. New pavement will be added throughout the complex as well as an extension of the pathfinder to the western edge of the park. A new gate will be added at the entrance of the Kiddie Park as well. Councilman Jim Curd says he appreciates the effort to improve the area.

Work should start on this project by the end of February. The improvements are anticipated to be finished by May when the Kiddie Park opens for the summer.

A series of agenda items covered improvements to the Adams Municipal Golf Course. As part of the 2018 G.O. bond schedule, a bunker repair project was to be funded. However, an unanticipated donation of $57,400 from Dale Forrest was received to for new bunker liners, cost of materials and installation as well.

These new bunker liners will allow for better drainage and will be easier to maintain. White quartz sand will also be added to the bunkers. This is the first renovation to the course’s bunkers in decades according to the council. All members expressed their appreciation to Forrest and Adams’ head pro Jerry Benedict for their roles in this project.

The 2018-19 budget was amended in a subsequent agenda item to account for the donation.
