Oklahoma Wesleyan’s men’s basketball team will try build off last Saturday’s thrilling double overtime victory over Southwestern as it begins play in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament. The Eagles are the defending champion in the event. OKWU hosts eighth-seeded Bethany in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

OKWU head coach Donnie Bostwick says the team hasn’t played perfectly over the last two game but the effort is still there.

K.J. Malveau has been the unquestioned leader of the Eagles. Malveau had the game-winning assist in Saturday’s conference title clinching victory. The senior guard has been at his best when the stakes are the highest over his two-year career at OKWU. Malveau averaged 23 points per game in the 2018 postseason, combining the KCAC tournament and NAIA tournament.

Bostwick says he is confident Malveau can make a play for the team in the biggest situations.

The Eagles received good news as the KCAC awards for the regular season were announced. Donnie Bostwick was named as the KCAC Coach of the Year. Malveau and Josh Wilchcombe were All-KCAC first team selections. Isaak Rowe was a third team selection. Brooks Haddock was also named to the all-freshman team.
