The Dewey City Council recognized Bob Burke Tuesday night. Captain Burke has served the Dewey Police Department since July 1, 1989 and will continue his work until Feb. 28th, 2019. During his 29 years of law enforcement in Dewey, Burke trained up to 40 rookies, and – as City Manager Kevin Trease could attest to – is recognized by many in the state of Oklahoma. After working alongside Burke for nearly 9 years, Trease gave an Outstanding Services Award to the longtime police captain.

Mayor Tom Hays followed up Trease's award from the City of Dewey with a proclamation. In the proclamation, Hays mentioned that Burke served as a true pillar of Dewey law enforcement. Words like dedication, loyalty and inspiration in the proclamation reflected his willingness to protect Dewey residents over the years. To end the proclamation, Mayor Hays declared March 1st, 2019 in Dewey to be Bobby R. Burke Day in remembrance of his service.

A retirement party for Captain Burke will take place on March 1st from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Heritage Theater in Dewey.
