The Cherokee Area Council Boy Scouts of America held their Volunteer Recognition Banquet Tuesday night in Bartlesville's St. John Catholic Church. Doug Patterson (pictured right) and John Houk received the prestigious Silver Beaver Award during the banquet. The Silver Beaver Award is given to those who exhibit service above self while having purity of thought during that service without expectation of reward or recognition.

Patterson gave his thoughts on receiving the Silver Beaver Award Tuesday night. He said being in Scouting at a young age set the foundation for the rest of his life. When his son was in Scouting, he felt the motivation to do more for Scouting.

Patterson's son has since completed Scouting and he continued to work in the Cherokee Area Council. He was recognized for that continued dedication to Scouting and he said he was honored to receive the award. He also said it takes a village to make Scouting work and he thanked his wife for her support.

Kenneth Roark, Rick Bronson, Charlie Bowerman and Matt Kreps received President's Awards during the banquet. Jessica Hines and Hilary Kamplin received James E. West Awards. Jerry Wells received the Phil R. Phillips Award.

The 2018-2019 Eagle Scout Class was also recognized for their hard work. They put in 3,410 total service hours on Eagle Projects in 2018. Those Eagle Scouts (pictured below) include:

William Shiflet - Bartlesville Troop 2

Jacob Martz, Christian Melton, Cole Potts, Brian Coordson - Bartlesville Troop 3
