Roger State University’s 10th Annual Bartlesville Scholarship Breakfast was held Friday morning at the Bartlesville Community Center. This was RSU’s fundraising effort to provide funds to benefit local students with restricted scholarships.

Russel Arellanes, a 2016 RSU alum and past scholarship recipient spoke during the event. Arellanes is currently completing a medical degree at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He said it would not have been possible without the support from RSU and the generosity of the Bartlesville community.

The event also featured KJRH news anchor Karen Larsen. Larsen said the definition of scholarship is a fund for knowledge and learning. She added that the definition for scholarship should include "funding forward a future." According to Larsen, 83-percent of students enrolled in public universities need some form of scholarship or financial aid.

RSU President Dr. Larry Rice noted that there was a record crowd that attended Firday’s Bartlesville Scholarship Breakfast. RSU going into the breakfast was at 80-percent of their $25,000 scholarship fundraising goal.
