Site principals for the Dewey Public School District presented their State Report Cards to the Dewey Board of Education this week. Dewey High School Principal Brent Dugger says the main focus for the high school is to utilize Pre-ACT results to identify standards and concepts where students are having difficulties.

Dugger also said they want use Pre-ACT resources to analyze curriculum being taught at the school. He says that would best prepare for the ACT itself. The Academic Achievement rating of Dewey High School's State Report Card is based off of juniors taking the ACT.

Only 35-percent of graduating seniors plan on going to college and Dugger said DHS needs to reach the 65 to 70-percent of students at least interested in going to college. That means meeting the minimum ACT score requirement for colleges across the board so they can at least qualify for college.

Another thing all three site principals wanted to approve at the schools is chronic absenteeism. Principal Jerri Moore says 110 chronic absences were reported at Dewey Elementary School alone last year.

Principal Moore said communicating the importance of student attendance with parents will be a top priority going forward. That means scheduling a time each day to call parents about attendance.
