A plaque was presented to the family of Don Schirlls on Monday morning for his 24-years of volunteer service with Washington County Emergency Management.

WCEM's Executive Director Kary Cox gave the presentation. He said Don recently lost his battle with cancer and that he left big shoes to fill.

When Cox started at the WCEM, Don was working with the Bartlesville Police Reserves. Shortly after that time, he was assigned to the emergency agency by the BPD and worked security for the facility. He also handled deployments they may have had at that time.

Later on, Don left the BPD and joined the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Again, he remained assigned to the Emergency Operation Center for security purposes.

Kary Cox said Don acted as a great mentor for new volunteers at the EOC and the community. He said he did an excellent job in the communications and resource management arena in his last days with the EOC.
