The Dewey Economic Development Authority held a Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony for a third straight year on Thursday night at the Dewey Hotel Museum.

Approximately 120 people attended the event. Event Coordinator Chris Revard was thankful for everyone’s participation in an always growing program. He said while the public got to enjoy Santa and hear the Dewey High School Choir sing Christmas carols, they also had an opportunity to shop local.

Shopping locally is important because it keeps sales tax in the City of Dewey. While it may be easier to shop online in today's day and age, Revard said they want to do more to help the city's merchants out as much as possible, which includes more exposure.

Looking at the DHS Choir, Revard said they were a great addition to the ceremony this year. He said Mr. Green does an excellent job with his classes and they are talking about getting his choir classes more public exposure. Revard said the kids need to be able to show off their talents and hard work more often.

Next year, the Dewey Economic Development Authority would like to add the Dewey High School Band to the program alongside the choir when they put on the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony. Advertising the event more in the future and continuing to have a small town holiday spirit is also what the DEDA is looking to bring to this event.

Revard said they hope to grow the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony in Dewey every year. He said Christmas lights in the city will be on until the end of the month, so all can take in the Christmas spirit.
