Friday is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the March 3rd Presidential Preferential Primary Election and the Special Washington County Election.

Yvonne House, the Secretary for the County Election Board, said persons who are U.S. citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 18-year-old, may apply to become registered voters. She said persons who have never been registered to vote before or who are registered but need to change their name or address may do so by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application Form in time for it to be postmarked no later than midnight on Friday.

Application forms are available at the County Election Board Office located at 420 S. Johnstone Ave., Room 101, and all post offices, public libraries, tag agencies and on the State Election Board website, elections.ok.gov.

All voters in Washington County will receive the ballot for the Special County election. The County election focuses on whether or not liquor stores should be allowed to be open on Sundays.

Here is what you need to know for the Presidential Preferential Primary:

• Voters must be a registered member of the party for which they intend to cast a ballot.

• Independents are allowed to vote in the Democratic President Preferential Primary. The Democratic Party is the only recognized party in Oklahoma that currently allows Independents to vote in its primaries.

• The purpose of the Presidential Preferential Primary is to allow all recognized parties in Oklahoma to send delegates to their party’s national convention.

• Each party is responsible for choosing the Presidential candidate that will be on the ticket in November.

The last day to register or make any changes to your address, party affiliation, name, etc. is Friday. For more information regarding voter registration, call the Election Board at 918.338.2850.
