The Dewey City Council agreed to lease property located at 530 S. Osage Avenue this week.

The Council gave approval for staff to solicit and accept applications to lease the city-owned property in mid-July. City Manager Kevin Trease talked about the need to get someone in the facility. He said the hope was to get someone in the building that is the right fit for Dewey. Getting more jobs in Dewey was also the hope.

On Monday, the Dewey City Council chose to lease the property to Lay’s Custom Welding.

Before leasing to Lay’s Custom Welding, Bell Camper temporarily rented out the property at 530 S. Osage. This was before Bell Camper relocated to their new facility. In early May, the Dewey City Council agreed to re-plat the property. Towards the end of May, the Dewey Economic Development Authority discussed the property further to see what types of companies could go into the area.

The Dewey City Council also approved an ordinance this week to re-zone 421 S. Osage from a Commercial Highway to a Commercial General. That was before the Council approved an ordinance to re-zone 330 Bartles Road from a Commercial Neighborhood to an M-1 Limited Industrial.

Later in the meeting, the Dewey City Council approved a resolution to amend the Fiscal Year 2020-2021. The Council approved a $1,680 increase in revenues and a $1,680 increase in expenditures for state library assistance. Trease said this money is generally higher. He said it is probably the lowest the state aid for the library has been in the past five years.
