Bruins Fall to Putnam City in Mini-Game

For the first time since November, high school football teams had the chance to play someone in a different jersey last night. Nearly all clubs across the state were in action for scrimmages, as true game action begins on Friday, Aug. 28.
At Bartlesville High, the Bruins showed flashes of promise on both sides of the ball during a two-quarter contest against Putnam City. The Pirates topped Bartlesville 14-9 in the mini-game – with both teams playing both their 1s and 2s during the game action.
The Bruins ripped off two straight first downs to begin the contest on a 13-yard Caleb Perry run and a 15-yard throw from Paxton Bradford to Kaden Brown. Bartlesville would eventually punt after a fumbled snap, and pin PC deep in its own territory.
After a forced fumble, and the first of several Braeden Winters sacks on the evening, BHS got the ball back and scored a few plays later on a Perry three-yard scamper. It was 7-0 Bartlesville, and that would end up being the only offensive score for the Bruins on the night.
Winters would eventually get another sack, which led to a Pirate safety, that gave Bartlesville a 9-7 lead late in the first quarter.
Putnam City benefited from several big plays offensively, as the Bruins struggled to wrap-up at times.
When Harrison Clark was at QB later on he hit Gage Keaton on two great throws on the final BHS drive with Putnam City up five. However, a Hail Mary at the buzzer fell incomplete.
Zain Hainzinger, Dillon McCoy, and Rocky Shuman all had good moments for the Bruins, as well. Bartlesville will next host Coweta and East Central for a scrimmage on Thursday before its opener at home against Claremore on Sept. 4.
