The Washington County Assessor’s Office has announced that field work on the upcoming year’s visual inspection project has begun.

Each county assessor’s office within the state of Oklahoma is required by law to visually inspect every parcel on the county’s assessment roll at least once within a four-year inspection cycle.  To that end, the Washington County Assessor’s Office began its field work on the 2021 assessment roll on Monday, Sept. 21st.

County Assessor Todd Mathes says that normal assessment routines may be a bit different this year than what residents are used to seeing.

For the 2020-21 fiscal year, Mathes said they've contracted with an Arkansas-based company called Arkansas CAMA Technology, Inc. (ACT) to perform their visual inspection.  He said they will be responsible for checking the existing structures against what they are already showing on their assessment roll, measuring any new or perhaps unreported buildings or structures, and then photographing all homes and commercial buildings located within the visual inspection area.

Mathes says the roughly 7,500 parcels will take several months to complete, so ACT will remain in Washington County throughout the fall and possibly into the early winter months.  He adds that residents will see some unfamiliar vehicles with the Washington County Assessor logo on them driving to and stopping in various neighborhoods throughout Washington County.

However, Mathes says that anyone who is concerned with an out-of-state vehicle in their neighborhood claiming to be doing assessment work for the county is welcome to call the Washington County Assessor’s Office. He said their office will be able to confirm or deny if ACT is scheduled to be in that particular subdivision or area of the county at any particular time.
