A posthumous letter regarding the retirement status and transfer of a firearm to the estate of fallen Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) Corporal Kyle Jeffery Davis was approved by the Washington County Commissioners on Monday.

Sheriff Scott Owen said an officer typically gets to keep his/her firearm once they retire. He added that the firearm becomes part of the estate once they pass.

Deputy Davis was killed in the line of duty on Thursday, March 25th. Sheriff Owen said Davis was with the WCSO for 13 years. He said they wanted to do this out of respect for Davis and his family.

Sheriff Owen said an engraver has donated his services. He said Deputy Davis' name and "End of Watch" date will be engraved on his weapon and given to the family.

Deputy Davis leaves behind a wife and two small children.
