Castillo Makes USA Basketball U16 Club

Just after 5:00 PM on Monday afternoon, Bartlesville found out it would have a representative on Team USA.
Bruin sophomore David Castillo officially nabbed a roster spot on the 16-and-under nationwide club, meaning he will be one of 12 athletes his age to represent their country during an international tournament in Mexico beginning on Monday.
Castillo had made the initial cut from 27 players down to 16 over the weekend. According to a press release from USA basketball, the team will leave for Mexico on Thursday.
Bartlesville Public Schools Superintendent Chuck McCauley was able to tell the school board during its regular meeting on Monday night. McCauley says this shows what is possible in Bartlesville.
A tournament that started in 2009, the FIBA Americas U16 Championship features eight national teams from North, South and Central America and the Caribbean.
The USA Basketball men are 31-0 in FIBA Americas U16 Championship play and have won the gold medal in all six editions of the tournament.
Castillo and USA Basketball will have its first game on Monday, Aug. 23 against Puerto Rico, the game will start at 2:30 PM.
