Huskies Fall; Lady Huskies Advance

It was another heartbreaking and season-ending loss for the Pawhuska Huskies on Monday afternoon, as they fell to Central Sallisaw, 43-41. The Lady Huskies will have their season continue today after a 49-28 win over that same Central Sallisaw team.

Trailing by two with three seconds left, Conner Easley inbounded the ball to Mason Gilkey underneath the goal, but he couldn’t get the shot to fall.

Pawhuska led in the early going of the first quarter, but it was Central Sallisaw who led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter. Midway through the second quarter, the game was tied at 16 following a bucket from Dalton Hurd. Trenton Miles made a three-pointer going into halftime to give Pawhuska a 24-23 lead.

Following a Chandler Moen shot in the paint midway through the fourth quarter, Pawhuska held a 34-32 lead, but in the late going it was David Stroud who made the difference for Central Sallisaw to get the win.

As for the Lady Huskies, they got out to an 11-0 lead and didn’t give up their first bucket until the 2:40 mark of the first quarter. Pawhuska led 21-14 at halftime, but opened the second half on a 10-0 run to lead by 17 midway through the third quarter. Pawhuska went on to win by 21.

Hannah Reynolds, Miya Curry and Fallon Bowman all scored in double figures. They will now play Colcord with a chance at going to the area tournament at 1:30 p.m. That game will air on KPGM FM 99.1 and audio is available at KPGMTV.com.
