Washington County Sheriff's Office Corporal Kyle Davis was killed in the line of duty a year ago.

Family and friends gathered at Copan Lake on Sunday afternoon to remember a hero gone too soon.

As the family has grieved and processed the tragedy, Brody Wallis, Deputy Davis' brother-in-law, says they can now reflect on how blessed they were for the time that they had with Kyle. Wallis says they can celebrate Kyle's life and the things he brought to each of their lives

Truity Credit Union hosted and organized the event. Garrett Brown and Chase Wilson provided live music.

Wallis says they cherish the moments they had with their loved one. He says they have received tremendous support through various means in the past year, and he thanks the community for rallying around them during a difficult time.

Washington County Sheriff Scott Owen says they will always be there for Deputy Davis' family. Owen says they are wonderful people, and their hearts go out to them. He says Kyle will never be forgotten even though he is gone.

The gathering allowed Davis' memory to live on.

Wallis says the picnic was a wonderful tribute that gave everyone a way to come together again as family and friends to honor Kyle's memory by being in the outdoors. He says his brother-in-law's memory will not be forgotten.

It was announced on Friday that a seedling from the Survivor Tree that lived through the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995 would be planted in Deputy Davis' memory at the Washington County Jail in Bartlesville. More on that story here.

In the coming weeks, a ribbon cutting with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to dedicate the Cpl. Kyle Jeffrey Davis Memorial Highway between Copan and Dewey will take place.
