For nearly two days, firefighters in Central Oklahoma battled and finally contained a wildfire in Blaine County. The wildfire occured along a length of highway near a small neighborhood, causing two dozen homes to need evacuation.

Blaine County Emergency Manager DIrector, Jim Shelton, said that wind played a huge part in how quickly the fire spread and how difficult it was to get under control. The lack of rain and moisture in the ground also allowed the fire to spread wider and farther than normal in a very short time and to burn longer than usual. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time as investigtion into the fire continues. Shelton said it could have been something as simple as a cigrette thrown from a passing car or as complicated as a piece of metal on a vehicle rubbing against asphalt and creating sparks.

In Washington, Osage and Nowata counties there has been discussion of burning bans. The City of Nowata has already implemented a burn ban within city limits.
