Bartlesville High hosted day one of the ConocoPhillips Arvest Invitational all day on Thursday at Bruin Field House.

It was a successful day for the event and for both BHS basketball teams, as the boys and girls both blew out their competition in round one of the tournament.

The Bartlesville girls handled Tulsa Memorial with ease. BHS lead from wire-to-wire and won 76-17.The Lady Bruins allowed only 12 points in the final three quarters of play. KK Duncan, Grace McPhail, Mikka Chambers and Kenzie Denny were all in double-figures in the rout.

After the game head coach Justyn Shaw says he thinks his club has taken some major steps forward the past couple of weeks.

On the guy’s side it was a similar story. Bartlesville would get up by 20 before you could blink and the Bruins topped Ponca City 85-48. The 85-points scored is the third most in the Clent Stewart era of BHS hoops.

Bartlesville would score early and often off of steals and Ponca turnovers. The Bruins shot 56-percent from the field and turned the Wildcats over 26 times.

Bartlesville outscored Ponca City 34-6 in fast-break points.

These two came easy on a dunk to Caleb Rogers, which would put the game out of reach.

David Castillo would lead the Bruins with 22 points on 7-15 shooting and 4-10 accuracy from three-point land. Michael Smith III had 18 while Aadhi Ayyappan scored 15. Dayton McCall had a career-high of 10.

In Friday night action, the Lady Bruins will face Booker T. at 7:00 while the Bruin guys will take on Carl Albert at 8:30, both in the semifinals of the event from Bruin Field House.

Both will air on KWON and KWONTV.com.
