UPDATE: Two Charged with 1st Degree Murder--Victims ID'd
UPDATE: Walker Charged in Federal Court:
Lucas Anthony Walker, 20, was charged in federal court in Tulsa by Criminal Complaint with first degree murder in Indian Country and discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Walker made his initial court appearance on Monday.
This matter will proceed in United States District Court in Tulsa, where the Complaint is currently pending. A Complaint is a temporary charge alleging a violation of law. For the case to proceed to trial, the United States must present the charge to a federal Grand Jury within 30 days. Once a Grand Jury returns an Indictment, a defendant has a right to a jury trial at which the United States would have the burden of proving the defendant’s guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The FBI, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are the investigative agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric O. Johnston and Shakema M. Onais is prosecuting the case.
UPDATE VICTIMS ID'd:
Washington County Undersheriff Jon Copeland has released the names of the victims in the double homicide investigation from over the weekend in rural northern Washington County.
The names are Larry and Deborah Dutton.
Full Statement from Copeland on Monday (1/23):
"Two bodies were recovered on Sunday during a joint operation between the FBI, OSBI, Medical Examiner's Office and the WCSO. We are confident the identity of the two bodies are that of Larry and Deborah Dutton, both of rural Washington County, Oklahoma.
We are awaiting a full confirmation from the Medical Examiner's Office and expect that information to be forthcoming in the next few days.
Two arrests have been made, as previously released, in connection with this homicide investigation. Lucas Anthony Walker and a juvenile have been arrested this past Friday,
Mr. Walker has had charges filed in Federal Court - Tulsa, for Murder in the First Degree and Discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
The juvenile will be seen in Washington County District Court where they will be charged with 2 counts of first degree murder. The 11th Judicial District Attorney, William Drake, will be seeking to charge the juvenile as an adult.
The juvenile's name will be withheld until such time court proceedings have occurred permitting the release of the name."
UPDATE SUSPECT:
Washington County Undersheriff Jon Copeland tells Bartlesville Radio: The WCSO continues to investigate a case that began as a possible missing person / suspicious incident. WCSO Deputies and Investigators interviewed two people on Friday, 1/20/23. The interviews provided additional information and the case changed to a homicide investigation. Lucas Anthony Walker (20 years old) was arrested on two counts of First Degree Murder on Friday evening, 1/20/23. A second person, a juvenile, was also arrested Friday evening.
The WCSO continues to investigate this case and is working with the US Attorney’s Office (Tulsa), the FBI (Tulsa office), the OSBI, the Medical Examiner’s Office (Tulsa), and the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (Washington County). “We are thankful to all of the agents, officers, and deputies assisting with this investigation due to this case involving the US Attorney’s Office (Tulsa) as well as our local District Attorney’s Office”, said Undersheriff Jon Copeland. Copeland continues:
“This is a collaborative effort and it would not be possible if not for solid relationships between all of the agencies involved”. “We will continue working together to ensure this case is completely and thoroughly investigated”, said Copeland.
More information is expected in the coming days as this investigation moves forward. We are still working on notifying next of kin. Once this is completed, we anticipate releasing the names of the victims involved.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Two people have been taken into custody by Washington County Sheriff's Deputies on 1st Degree Murder complaints.
According to a press release from Undersheriff Jon Copeland, while investigating a possible missing persons / suspicious incident, WCSO Investigators and Deputies developed probable cause for a search warrant. The search warrant was for a single-family residence in the 397000 Block of W 1300 Rd, northeast of Dewey in rural Washington County. Two people were taken into custody on 1st Degree Murder complaints.
WCSO investigators are working with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Medical Examiner’s Office out of Tulsa. No further information is being released at this time pending notification to next of kin.
Additional information is anticipated to be released at a later date.
