Oklahoma State football is six weeks away from kickoff, and it is safe to say the Cowboys have more questions going into the 2023 season than uniform combinations.

One of those questions is who will break out this year, and could the answer come from Pawhuska?

Former Huskie wideout Mason Gilkey is entering his season in Stillwater after redshirting last year. Gilkey could be a favorite for whoever is under center this fall with 4.47 speed in the 40-yard dash and listed as the second tallest receiver on the roster.

Gilkey’s high school quarterback will join him on offense with redshirt sophomore Bryce Drummond transferring from North Texas. Drummond is switching to tight end after spending 2022 as a linebacker for the Mean Green.

There is only one Division-I reception between the five tight ends listed. Drummond could be used similarly to New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill who plays tight end and occasionally quarterback and special teams.

Drummond is 15th in all-time career passing yards in Oklahoma high school football. He played in 12 games last year on special teams for UNT.
The duo of Drummond and Gilkey helped Pawhuska set the Oklahoma high school football record for points scored in a season in 2020 with 695 points in 10 games.
The two Pawhuska natives look to help bring that same spark to a Cowboy offense that averaged 14.1 points per game over the last six games of the season and going 1-5 over that time.
OSU kicks off the season on Sep. 2 against Central Arkansas in Boone Pickens Stadium. You can listen to Cowboy football all fall on KWON - AM 1400, FM 93.3 and 95.1.
