Pawhuska Passes 2025-26 Budget; Five Jobs to be Cut

Ty Loftis
On Tuesday evening, the Pawhuska city council was tasked with passing a 2025-2026 fiscal year budget. As the budget was presented to the council heading into the evening, five city employees would lose their jobs.
This included two employees from within the street department, one administration position, one job from the fire department and one job from the police department.
City Manager Jerry Eubanks explained how the city got here and said there was an alternative to cutting those employees.
Council members Rachel Prather and Ellen Weigant don't want anybody to get laid off, but being new to the city council realize something needs to change.
Meanwhile, it is the belief of councilor Mark Buchanan that a budget can be made without anybody getting laid off.
Mayor Steve Tolson said as much as he hates to see employees get laid off, it is important the city begin correcting financial errors from the past.
A motion was made to pass the budget that would cut the five city jobs. That was passed with a 3-2 vote. Council members Buchanan and Rodger Milleson voted against it.
Once the vote was final, many city employees left. While the meeting wasn't over yet, Milleson left as well.
