Oklahoma Union High School Senior Amina Washington has been named a Patriot Auto Student of the Month for March, powered by Truity Credit Union and Bartlesville Radio.

Washington is heavily involved in Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), where she serves as the 2025–2026 state vice president of community service. In that role, she helps lead statewide initiatives and recently participated in preparations for the organization’s state convention in Tulsa.
“I’m first and foremost very active in FCCLA,” Washington said. “Anything to do with the red jacket, for sure.”

Through FCCLA, Washington has organized and supported a variety of community service efforts. She has assisted with school blood drives, helping recruit donors and volunteers, and participated in traffic safety awareness campaigns through the group’s Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety (FACTS) program. Activities included demonstrations on impaired driving, bus safety education and seat belt awareness campaigns.

Washington said service projects also extend to smaller acts of appreciation, such as preparing gifts for teachers and bus drivers to recognize their contributions.
“It’s just uplifting our community and our teachers, our school as well,” she said.
In addition to her service work, Washington has been active in athletics, serving as a volleyball team captain throughout her high school career, including at the varsity level for three years. She also participated in cheerleading during her early high school years.

Outside of school, Washington works at Braum's in Coffeyville, balancing her job with her academic and extracurricular commitments.

After graduation, Washington plans to attend University of Missouri to study journalism. She said she is drawn to the program’s hands-on learning approach and proximity to home.

Her interest in journalism and public service was shaped in part by her experience as a page for the Oklahoma House of Representatives, where she observed the work of communications staff and legislative aides. Washington said she is considering a career in public relations or as a legislative assistant.

“I would love to end up in a capitol somewhere,” she said.

Washington said receiving the Student of the Month recognition is both humbling and rewarding.

“I feel very blessed to be in the position that I am to share my story and my passion for service and leadership,” she said. “You can make a difference wherever you put your mind to.”

Washington and several other outstanding high school seniors will be recognized at the Night of Scholars and Champions on May 5 at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The Patriot Auto Student of the Year will win a brand new car courtesy of Patriot Auto Group.
