Bartlesville High School Senior Ava Dennis has been named a Patriot Auto Student of the Month for March, powered by Truity Credit Union and Bartlesville Radio.
Dennis serves as student body president, a role that has allowed her to lead new initiatives aimed at boosting student engagement. Among them was a free “fall bash” event featuring food trucks, inflatables and an outdoor movie designed to create an inclusive, positive environment for students.
“We wanted it to be something fun that everybody could attend,” Dennis said. “Just something to get student morale up.”
She also helped organize a visit from motivational speaker Sam Demma, who addressed students in February on goal-setting, kindness and community involvement, timing the event to counter a midwinter slump in motivation. Dennis said the event received strong feedback from students
.
In addition to student government, Dennis is vice president of the school’s National Honor Society chapter, a member of the tennis team and participates in Interact Club.
Outside school, Dennis interns with ConocoPhillips in its community relations department, assisting with events such as United Way campaigns and local charitable initiatives. She also works at a local boutique and runs her own small spray-tan business.
Following graduation, Dennis plans to serve an 18-month mission with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before attending Brigham Young University, where she intends to study marketing management with a minor in procurement.
Dennis said she was surprised to learn she had been selected for the award.
“I’m honestly honored and shocked,” she said. “There are so many students doing so much. It feels really nice to be recognized.”
Dennis and other outstanding high school seniors will be recognized during the Night of Scholars and Champions on May 5 at Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The Patriot Auto Student of the Year will win a new car from Patriot Auto Group.
