Lankford Declares Government Shutdowns Bad, Terrorism Worse

Senator James Lankford fired off another edition of the “Lankford Letter,” reminding Oklahomans that tornado season is here, Congress still enjoys turning basic funding bills into hostage situations, and Iran apparently remains less than thrilled with the United States.
Lankford opened by discussing storm damage across Oklahoma, especially around Enid, where homes were destroyed while Vance Air Force Base quickly resumed operations. In Washington, he celebrated the reopening of the Department of Homeland Security after a 75-day shutdown, because funding agencies that handle border security, FEMA, TSA, and the Secret Service became a controversial concept somewhere along the way.
The senator also defended FISA surveillance programs, arguing they’ve prevented terror attacks while promising more safeguards against abuse. On Iran, Lankford praised U.S. military operations targeting drones, missile sites, and naval assets while backing President Donald Trump’s push to dismantle Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Meanwhile, back on the wholesome homefront, chamber groups from all over Oklahoma made their annual pilgrimage to Washington to politely remind federal officials that Oklahoma still exists between election cycles.
