Excitement is building for “Yacht Rock Orchestrated,” one of the featured performances of the 42nd Annual OKM Music Festival, coming Saturday, June 6, to Post Oak Lodge & Retreat. Organizers say the outdoor concert will offer a memorable summer evening featuring food, drinks and live music under the stars in one of the region’s most scenic venues.
The production celebrates the smooth sounds of “Yacht Rock,” spotlighting iconic hits from the late 1970s and early 1980s made famous by artists such as Chicago, Toto, Steely Dan, Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. Known for rich harmonies, polished musicianship and nostalgic singalong favorites, the genre continues to connect generations of music fans.
Featured performer Andy Chrisman said Yacht Rock represents a unique era in music history.
“These songs have literally stuck around for 40 to 50 years that we’re still listening to today,” Chrisman said on KWON Radio's COMMUNITY CONNECTION. “It’s a time capsule of when music was at its best.”
Chrisman brings more than four decades of music industry experience to the concert. A founding member of the acclaimed Christian music group 4HIM, he helped produce nearly 30 number-one songs and performed thousands of concerts during the group’s successful run. In addition to his recording and touring career, Chrisman hosts the nationally syndicated radio program “Worship With Andy Chrisman,” heard in 13 countries, along with the popular podcast “1 Degree of Andy,” featuring conversations with legendary Contemporary Christian artists.
The concert will feature a full orchestral presentation with a 37-piece ensemble, including a 20-piece string section, rhythm musicians and featured vocalists performing Yacht Rock classics in a symphonic format. Organizers describe the event as an immersive musical experience designed to elevate familiar favorites through full orchestral arrangements.
Additional featured performers include Grady Nichols, Alaska Rayne and Chris Rodriguez, with musical direction, conducting and arrangements by David Hamilton.
Chrisman called the performance a “bucket list concert” and encouraged audiences to come ready to sing along and enjoy the atmosphere.
“If you love summer entertainment and the songs you know from the ’70s and early ’80s, this is going to be a memorable night,” he said.
Mary Lynn Mihm from OKM says the concert is ideal for date nights, gatherings with friends and music lovers looking for a unique summer entertainment experience. The mission of OKM Music is to bring exceptional musical experiences to Oklahoma while creating memorable community events that connect people through music.
