The Cherokee Nation will accept applications for its College Housing Assistance Program from July 27 through Aug. 7 to help eligible low-income Native American students with housing costs during the 2026 fall semester.

The program provides qualifying students with up to $1,000 per semester to help secure safe and affordable housing while pursuing a degree at an accredited institution of higher education.

Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students in good standing with their educational institution and must reside within the Cherokee Nation Reservation. They also must meet all eligibility requirements for the College Housing Assistance Program, including income guidelines established under the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA).

The program is open to members of federally recognized tribes, with priority given to Cherokee Nation citizens. Additional priority will be given to students who received College Housing Assistance Program funding during the previous semester.

Housing assistance is available for up to eight semesters for eligible students. Additional eligibility requirements may apply in accordance with College Housing Assistance Program policy.

The Cherokee Nation says the program is designed to reduce financial barriers for students pursuing higher education by helping cover housing expenses, allowing them to focus on earning their degrees.
