When disaster strikes, history dictates that it's best top be prepared. To that end, Washington county, the city of Bartlesville and the Bartlesville Public School District gathered for a Hazard Mitigation planning session. A mitigation plan is now a requirement for disaster funding from FEMA. The BPSD was well represented with several school principals and vice-principals, along with Superintendent Dr. Gary Quinn. The planning consultant for the project, Ronald Flanagan, said there are benefits to the city, county and the school district to combine for the plan.

Once the plan is complete, Washington county, Bartlesville and the schools will be eligible for additional grants which can be used for projects such as safe rooms, relocation of structures, shatterproof glass and many others. To get a look at the plan as it is now, visit www.cityofbartlesville.org and go to the Community Development link.
