A measure that would protect anyone breaking into a locked vehicle to save a child's life from civil liability has been signed into law by Governor Mary Fallin. House Bill 1902 would protect a person breaking out a window to save an endangered child's life from being sued. This law complements Oklahoma's 'Good Samaritan” law which protects citizens from being sued for providing emergency medical care to someone who's sick or injured.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the yearly average for child heat stroke fatalities is 38. More than half of those deaths were due to a caregiver forgetting the child in the vehicle. Roughly 30 percent of the fatalities were due to children getting in a vehicle without the driver's knowledge.
