Barnsdall Athletics Still On

Barnsdall Public Schools announced on Friday that the start of school will be delayed due to two staff members testing positive for COVID-19. Superintendent Jeff Lay said in a statement this will not affect Panther athletics because no coaches came into contact with staff members. Lay pointed out that athletics are voluntary activities as well.

On the football field the Panthers are part of an exciting transition down to Class-B eight-man football. Barnsdall lost several main cogs off of last year’s Class-A state quarterfinal team. Veteran head coach Kylee Sweeney says the team will do its best to operate the same as an eight-man team as it would in eleven man.

Sweeney says veterans Josh Weber and Keegan Marin will battle for reps at quarterback this fall. Those two, along with three other are returning starters on defense. The Panthers are set to start their new campaign on September 4 at Foyil.
