Barnsdall Football Still Has Weapons

High school football is less than a week away, as practice will start in Northeast Oklahoma on Monday.

One of the most anticipated teams for this coming fall in the Osage, Washington and Nowata County area is once again Barnsdall.

The Panthers made the playoffs in Class A this past season. Despite losing their star quarterback from that team, James Cole, Barnsdall should still have plenty of weapons for the upcoming season.

Joe Cole, James’ younger brother, has been pegged as the new Panther starting QB. Aside from him, Michael Marin and Joe Smith are two of the most seasoned returners. Marin was a huge part of the Panther offense last season, tallying more than 1,500 total yards at both wide receiver and running back.

A new, albeit familiar, name will also help out the Panther offense this season. Christian Warford is back on the football team after taking a year off. He had played on the gridiron earlier in his career. He will likely be a favorite target of Cole in the passing game. Barnsdall head coach Kylee Sweeney talks about Warford’s return.

Warford is the son of Barnsdall head boys’ basketball coach Clif Warford, and is a starter on the Panther basketball team, as well.
