Bartlesville Drops Two Games vs. Union

For only the second time in the past two years, Bartlesville High basketball was swept in Frontier Valley Conference play, as both the Union boys and girls teams came into Bruin Fieldhouse and came away with a win.

On the girl’s side first, an uncharacteristic night of offense kept the Lady Bruins from winning their 11th game in a row.

Union stifled BHS, and won 42-28 to snap Bartlesville’s 10-game win streak.

The Lady Bruins scored only three points in the third quarter on just one field goal, and trailed by as many as 17 down the stretch. BHS could never seriously threaten the Union lead. 28 points scored is the lowest offensive output for the program since February of 2016.

The total is even more head scratching considering BHS had been averaging more than 61 points per game since mid-December.

On the guy’s side the Bruins played one of their more complete games of the season despite coming up short in the end.

Union topped Bartlesville 53-51.

The Redskins made two free-throws with 5.3 seconds remaining to take a two point lead. BHS could not get a shot off in the waning moments, and Union escaped. Bartlesville got tremendous play from both Tayo Dina and Jaylin Oliver. Dina finished with 17 while Oliver had 24. This and-one from Oliver tied the ballgame in the final two minutes for Bartlesville.

Up next the Lady Bruins will play a girl’s only game at 7:30 on Friday at Owasso, while the BHS boys will next play on Saturday at the BOK Center in the High School Basketball Showcase.
