Bond Issue More than Facility Upgrades

Money for the new bond issue will help with more than facelifts to existing and aging facilities.

Bartlesville Public Schools officially put the new bond issue out to the public for the first time last week. The BPS School Board voted on, and passed the finalized items to be in the bond, which will be put up for a vote to Bartians in August.

There are obviously some items that will have an effect on local athletics, both at Bartlesville High and in the community at large. We will look at some of those issues this week.

Two bigger upgrades that will stand out are turf at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium, and partial funding for a new press box at Custer Stadium. However, in addition to those bigger items, the bond issue helps BHS Athletics and Fine Arts to fund everyday activities.

Bartlesville High Athletic Director Spence Rigdon says people shouldn’t forget about how extracurricular activities are effected by the bond issue aside from the major facility upgrades.

Rigdon said the yearly allotment helps to fund uniforms, equipment and other extra needs for both athletics and fine arts ventures at every level of the school system.

The bond issue up for a vote in August is a continuation of a bond issue from a couple years ago, passage of the bond would not raise taxes, but only extend what Bartlesville Public Schools is getting into the future.

We have in-depth news coverage with other items from the bond available on the news side, and on our website at BartlesvilleRadio.com.
