Bruin Baseball Loses Another Tough One

Bartlesville High baseball lost a tough one again on Thursday night, as the Bruins continue to get the short end of the stick on close games in 2019.

BHS fell to Sand Springs 4-3 in eight innings at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium for the Bruins second straight one-run loss.

Again an early lead would not hold, as Bartlesville was up 2-0 over the Sandites after the first inning. Sand Springs would score three runs to take its first lead 3-2 in the top of the third.

Give the Bruins credit, they did not falter down late. Still trailing by one in the bottom of the sixth Noah Wassom gave BHS a tremendous at-bat and tied the game up with a double down the left field line.

The Bruins would have their chances down the stretch to win it. Bartlesville had three at bats with runners in scoring position later on in the sixth and in the seventh, but could not get the winning run home.

Sand Springs scored on a walk, a controversial steal and subsequent single in the eighth, and the Bruins could not respond. BHS out-hit Sand Springs by four 10-6, in fact the Bruins have out-hit their opponents by eight over their last two losses since Tuesday.

Bartlesville now has three days off until the start of its next district series against Stillwater on Monday.
