It’s a big day for football across Oklahoma as Monday is the first day teams can officially take the field for practices in preparation for the 2018 season.

Bartlesville was up and at ‘em at 12:01 monday morning as a part of the traditional Midnight Bruin Brawl. A good crowd came out to witness the Bruins first practice under new head coach Lee Blankenship. There is a lot of new energy around the Bruins headed into the season which is evident with team taking the field in the first possible minute.

Coach Blankenship says the plan is to ramp things up later in the week after a light practice on Monday morning.

The Bruins also held a media day on Saturday where players and coaches alike shared their thoughts on the upcoming season. The players also showed their new Under Armour uniforms as a part of the team photo.

Last year’s starting quarterback Noah Sunday says the new coaching staff has brought a wave of new energy and ideas heading into the season.

Sunday is on three quarterbacks entrenched in a battle for the starting job along with Ben Winters and Paxton Bradford. The coaching staff hasn’t ruled out the possibility of not naming a starter until week one.

The Bruins defense is looking to step things up this season as well. Defensive back Tom Beard is ready to take on a leadership role in his senior season. Beard says the new coaching staff has educated him and his fellow seniors.

The Bruins will have four weeks of practice to prepare for the opener at Claremore on August 31.
