First year Bartlesville High head football coach Lee Blankenship is up for some pretty major hardware next week.

Blankenship is one of the candidates up for Oklahoma Coach’s Association Football Coach of the Year.

That winner will be announced this next week at the OCA convention, which starts Sunday in Tulsa and goes with the All-State games across the state.

Blankenship is up for the award after guiding Beggs to a 3A State runner up finish last year.

Blankenship went 46-18 in five seasons with Beggs. This past season was the Demons first appearance in the state title game in nearly 40 years. Joining Blankenship as candidates for the award are Zach Gardner from Afton, Mike Corley from Carl Albert, and Lee's cousin, Bill Blankenship, who won the 6A State Title with Owasso this past season.

The football coach of the year will be announced during the All-State football game, which is on Friday night at seven at Union High School in Tulsa.

Also, first year Lady Bruin girls’ basketball coach Donnie Martin is up for Coach of the Year in the ladies basketball catagory, as well.

Martin was hired this past offseason after leading Pryor to a 5A State runner up appearance back in the winter.

He took the place of Krista Binam, who left Bartlesville for Metro Christian.
