Bruin Football Has Successful Team Camp

Still no practice for high school football teams across the state, but that has not stopped Bartlesville High from working hard.

The Bruins wrapped up their own summer team camp last week. It was a week’s worth of evenings of padded action for first-year head coach Lee Blankenship, and he said he was pleased at the end of it.

Blankenship talks about his team’s progression thus far this offseason.

Blankenship had pointed to the Bruins team camp last week as an important part of his team’s progression. Bartlesville used the week to play catchup after starting out slower with a new coaching staff this past spring.

Numbers continue to be outstanding for Bartlesville, the Bruins had about 80-85 guys out during camp last week, which is only grades 10-12. If those numbers stay put, Blankenship said he will have to have some duplicate numbers for kids from week to week during the season.

FULL INTERVIEW WITH BLANKENSHIP

Bartlesville will continue workouts for the next couple of weeks up until midnight on the morning of August 6, which officially signifies the start of football practice. The midnight Bruin Brawl will be the official start, but Bruin football players will also have to complete a set of conditioning drills to be a part of the varsity squad. Blankenship explains.

The Bruins first scrimmage will be Thursday, August 16 at Broken Arrow. BHS has a home scrimmage the following Thursday against Tulsa Edison on August 23.

Bartlesville will officially begin the Lee Blankenship era on August 31 at Claremore on Week No.1.

We will have much more on Bruin football in the coming weeks.
