Bruin Football Ready for Team Camp

A long week with not much on the field action is getting set to end for Bartlesville High football, as the Bruins are getting set for their team camp at Rejoice Christian early next week.

BHS did regular off the field workouts and film study with this week in between spring practice ending, and the team camp beginning.

First year head coach Jason Sport said the spring practice went very well in mid-May, and was adamant about a group of older guys that will likely carry the Bruins in 2019. Sport highlights a few of the older returning players who had good springs.

Sport went on to mention his quarterbacks Ben Winters and Paxton Bradford and wide receivers Shane Simpson and Nick Tessier as a few more offensive guys that had good springs. Braden Winters and Caden Davis all got mentions, as well as the BHS offensive line, which has been maybe the most under the radar position group.

It appears that all nearly 20 Bruins with returning starting experience from last year were active and engaged in spring workouts.

The biggest off-the-field news for Bartlesville football in the past month was the hiring of Anderson Hurd at offensive line coach. Hurd comes to BHS from Arkansas, where he was leading the offensive line of an impressive West Memphis team in Class 6A. Sport explains how Hurd, a native southerner, ended up in Northeast Oklahoma.

We will have more on Bruin football when they head to Owasso for team camp early next week. After the conclusion of the camp, BHS will resume regular summer activities with seven on seven drills and lifting.
