Bruins Outlast Wildcats: Win ConocoPhillips Bowl

It was another high scoring affair at Custer Stadium on Thursday night, but Bartlesville had a tremendous second half to pull away and take back the ConocoPhillips Bowl.

The Bruins topped Ponca City 49-35 to keep their playoff hopes alive and win their third game of the season.

The game was very much in question until the second half. The Bruins and Wildcats were tied at 21 going into halftime, but Bartlesville would outscore Ponca 28-7 at one point to go up by 21-points.

Senior running back DeAndre Young was the workhorse once again for the Bruins. Unofficially, Young went for 333 yards on the night on 32 carries. A season high for a senior who was already averaging 208 yards a game coming into the contest. A final 40-yard scamper that put Young up above 300 yards put the game away for the Bruins.

Despite giving up 35 points, the Bruin defense only allowed 140 yards in the second half, and really only gave up seven points of their own accord over the final two quarters. Bartlesville head football coach Lee Blankenship talks about his club’s second half effort.

The win keeps Bartlesville right in the thick of the East-side 6A-II playoff race. The Bruins need to win in a week when Muskogee visits Custer Stadium for senior night.
