Bruins - And Others - Begin Football Practice

Bartlesville, Dewey, Nowata, and all Oklahoma high school football programs, are set to begin practice on Monday - and it has been a long time coming for the entire state.

Most teams had no spring camp and no summer 7-on-7 drills. This will be the first officially sanctioned football specific activities for some programs since the past season ended in November of 2019.

At Bartlesville High, head coach Jason Sport and his entire staff is back for year No. 2 of his head coaching stint with the Bruins. It is the third season that he and offensive coordinator Jason Munoz have been on the job.

Sport says he is looking forward to seeing his guys regularly.

The first few weeks at Bartlesville will be no different than usual as far as the agenda for practice. Sport says the Bruins are fortunate to be working within the same system into its third year, so things will be easier for most of the veterans to pick up on.

Teaching will be the main operation for the first few days.

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, and nearly all school districts across the state, have elected to go ahead with fall sports.

Football is the last sport to begin practice, as softball, volleyball and cross country are all getting set for competitions this week – those teams have been practicing for about four weeks already.
