The Caney Valley football team finds itself in the thick of the playoff race entering the final week of the regular season. The Trojans are 6-3 on the season but will need help to get into the playoffs.

Caney Valley needs to defeat Pawnee and have Hominy lose to Chelsea to nab a postseason spot. This senior heavy team has turned the program around. The Trojans had just one victory between 2018 and 2019. Now CV could finish as high as the third seed in its district. Head coach Stephen Mitchell says the turnaround has been incredible.

Pawnee is a difficult opponent. The Black Bears struggled early but have gone 3-2 in district play. Pawnee has district wins over Chelsea and Hominy. Mitchell says the key to victory will be stopping Pawnee’s ground attack.

Caney Valley is searching for its first top four district finish since 2017. Kickoff from Ramona is slated for 7 p.m.
