The championship games are set after the conclusion of day three action from the 25th annual Caney Valley tournament.

In the first boys’ semifinal Barnsdall knocked off Liberty, 61-51.

The Panthers trailed early but a stifling defensive stretch put them in the lead for good midway thru the first half. Liberty was held scoreless for more six minutes as a part of a 14-2 Panther run.

Barnsdall’s big three of Christian Warford, Derek Wilson and Michael Marin were all in double figures in the victory. They accounted for all but ten of the Panthers points. Warford was the top scorer with 20 points including this nice move to set up a three-ball.

Barnsdall is now 14-2 on the year with its only two losses coming to Nowata.

The other semifinal was a disappointment for the host. Caney Valley fell to Oklahoma Union in convincing fashion, 74-50.

The Trojans played from behind for most of the game. Late in the first quarter Brandon Fogle hit a floater at first quarter buzzer to make it a five-point game, but he turned his ankle on the way down and didn’t return to the game.

The Cougars ran away with the game from there propelling their lead to 33-21 by halftime. Kohlsyn Gibson put the team on his back for the second consecutive game. Gibson eclipsed 20 points again, dropping a game-high 27 including this three to put a cherry on top of an incredible performance.

This sets up a matchup between Barnsdall and Oklahoma Union in the championship game on Saturday at 8:30.

On the girl’s side Caney Valley topped Liberty, 41-29. On the other side Oklahoma Union knocked off Chelsea, 45-35. This puts the Lady Trojans and Lady Cougars in the title game Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Both championship games can be heard on KRIG 104.9 FM.
