Bartlesville High basketball guard David Castillo is now a two-time gold medalist.

Team USA’s U17 club won the gold on Sunday afternoon in the FIBA World Cup in Spain.

The U.S. team got off to a slow start, but topped Spain 79-67 in the finals of the eight-day tournament.

Castillo was brilliant again. He scored 12-points – all in the first half. He did it on 5-10 shooting. He again made another three-pointer, this one to pull America within one, as the announcers noticed the good performances Castillo had throughout the week.

Castillo averaged 10.7 points-per-game in the seven contests that Team USA won. He also took in 1.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.

The victory means the U.S. moves up to six consecutive titles all-time for the tournament, the last one coming in 2018 against France.

This year’s title came on the road, as Spain had a pretty large home crowd that aided in its good start.

This is the second World Cup Tournament for Castillo, as he was in the U15 World Cup a summer ago in Mexico, as well. An event Team USA also won.
