Oklahoma Wesleyan pulled comeback for the ages to defeat defending national champion Spring Arbor 70-68 in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament on Wednesday afternoon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The Eagles erased a 10-point early second half deficit to move on to the Sweet 16.

Brooks Haddock had just nine points at halftime. Spring Arbor led 38-30 at the break. However, the sophomore from Muskogee would explode for 23 points in the second half to finish with a game-high 32 points. Down one point with just over a minute left, Haddock rose to the occasion and gave OKWU the lead.

Haddock would tack on a few more free throws in the final seconds. A Cougars’ three-pointer to win rimmed out at the buzzer. OKWU overcame surrendering nine first half three-pointers to Spring Arbor while missing all 10 of its tries from downtown.

The Eagles advance to the Sweet 16 for the second time in the last three years. OKWU will now play Morningside, Iowa on Friday at 10:15 a.m.
