Coronavirus Fear Ends Eagles' Season
Oklahoma Wesleyan’s basketball season becomes the latest sports related cancellation due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus. Word has come down from the NAIA that all winter championships have been canceled, including basketball. A statement read:
“The health and safety of our student-athletes, as well as all involved in our championship events, is the NAIA’s highest priority”
OKWU had won its opening round game on Wednesday over Spring Arbor. The Eagles were slated for a Friday morning battle with No. 1 seed Morningside, Iowa in the Sweet 16. Donnie Bostwick, Eagles head coach took to Facebook after the announcement saying:
“Speechless. Teams are here. Just play the games with no fans. Watching young men and coaches who have sacrificed so much to reach this far, only to let fear end [the] tournament.”
The Eagles finish the season at 26-8.
