The Copan Hornets were outmatched by Liberty in the quarterfinals of the Caney Valley tournament. The Hornets fell, 52-36.

Copan started off strong Wyatt Davis making back-to-back field goals. The Hornets led 5-4 through the first five minutes of the game. However, Liberty got its offense going from there and moved the lead to 14-8 by the end of one quarter.

The Tigers stretched the lead to 33-16 by halftime. A strong 3-2 zone created difficulty for the Hornets for a bulk of the game.

The Hornets trailed by 20+ entering the final period, but a late rally reduced the lead to 49-35 with three minutes left. Despite the late threat Liberty would hold on for the win. Garrick Askew led Copan with nine points and two blocked shots.

Copan drops to 8-9 on the season.

In game two of the day Oklahoma Union demolished Wesleyan Christian, 84-31. The Cougars have now won nine straight games. It was a rout from the opening tip with the Cougars scoring the 11 points of the game. The lead was advanced to 26-5 by the end of the first quarter.

Oklahoma Union showed some flare in the second quarter. The Cougars threw down four dunks in the period to build on the lead. This fastbreak jam from Logan Key started the dunk contest.

Key finished 12 points. He was one of four Cougars to finish the game in double figures. The win moves the sixth-ranked Cougars to 15-1 on the year. The Mustangs are now 7-11.

So the semifinals will pit Caney Valley and Barnsdall against on the bottom of the bracket. Oklahoma Union will face Liberty in the top bracket. Both games will be played Thursday.

The consolation bracket will feature Copan against Wesleyan Christian on Friday. Chelsea and Foyil will play in the consolation on Friday.

The Girl’s semis will pair Oklahoma Union and Liberty in one game and Chelsea and Caney Valley in Thursday’s action as well.
