Dewey Adding Offensive Playmakers

The start of football practices in Northeast Oklahoma is just around the corner as August 12 is quickly approaching. An eager bunch at Dewey High School is ready to take the field for the first time since 7-on-7 drills in June.

The Bulldoggers used this period of the offseason to verse their skill players who will play an important role in the fall. The Dewey offense has long been a run-heavy unit and that is unlikely to change in 2019. However, the wide receivers have potential to make more of an impact than in years past. Basketball star Hayden Thornton is putting on the pads this season and first-year head coach Trent Turner says he’s made quite an impression.

Jack Davis and Corbin Buford also performed well in passing league over the summer. Dewey’s offense will need a leap in the passing game after throwing just four touchdowns all season in 2018. Incumbent starter Kale Carner had two touchdown passes after he took over under-center for the season's final seven games.

The Doggers open the 2019 season with a home game against Adair on August 30. Dewey has lost to the Warriors to open each of the past three seasons. Selecy Dewey games can be heard on KRIG 104.9 FM all season long.
