Dewey Defense Poised to Improve in 2019

High school football may be in its dead period, but the start of fall camp for several area teams is less than a month away. The Dewey Bulldoggers are a team that is anxious to get started under new head coach Trent Turner. The coach comes from an offensive background having been a coordinator for Dewey previously and most recently with 2A state semifinalist Adair on 2018.

Turner says he is trying to institute some new looks on the defense side. New schemes have caused a bit of a learning curve but the first-year head coach loves the effort he is seeing.

Returners will be key for the Doggers defense and it starts at the top. Defensive coordinator Geoff Beaty is back as well as the rest of the staff from last year. Dewey’s defense will be strong in linebacking corps as well with Corbin Buford and Hunter Rumsey leading the way. Jack Davis and Trey Glover were underclassmen that saw plenty of time in the secondary last year as well and are poised to make a leap with more experience.

Dewey went 2-8 in 2018 while allowing 41.6 points per game.
